The Meadows

20 June 2020

Delighted with Armpit and Dizzy this weekend on their first outing since lockdown.

Armpit was in the top 10 in his dressage and both jumped super rounds in the 90cm with an unlucky pole each.

Looking forward to next week already!

Tullymurray 2 Phase Event

15 June 2014

Another great day for all the horses today at Tullymurray 2 Phase Event, and the sun shone which made it even better!

Splash was 2nd and Ozzie 3rd in the 90cm class, both jumping double clear rounds. Patch left all the showjumps up but had a slip between 2 jumps and had to circle, and afterwards stormed round the XC, in the same class! Ed (4yr old) was really impressive on his first outing, and also jumped a double clear in the 75cm.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day at Tullymurray and are delighted with all the horses this weekend. Huge thanks to everyone who helped all weekend - it couldn't have been done without you

Armagh Show

14 June 2014

Super day at Armagh Show for past & present horses.

Austin (4yr old) had an unlucky pole down & Ozzie (5yr old) jumped a lovely clear to be placed 3rd in the 90cm. Stitches jumped a superb round in the 1m & was 5th.

Nicola was 4th on Dermott in their first ladies side saddle class, & Caoimhe was 3rd in the family pony.

Congratulations to Beth Wishart (pictured) & Cloudy who also picked up a rosette in the family pony class, & to team Martin / Walsh who were champion & reserve young horse.

Lorry is packed and ready for another early start tomorrow morning when we head to Tullymurray 2 phase!!

2014!

May 2014

AustinSorry this side of things have been so quiet recently!!

It's all go at the yard at the moment and now the winter is behind us, it's great to get all the young horses out of the arena hacking and XC schooling.

Stitches

We've been XC schooling at Moira, Dukes and Lusks Equestrian Centres, as well as showjumping at the Meadows and Portmore Equestrian Centres and our local riding club. I'm looking forward to the 2 phase league at Cloncaw Equestrian which runs all summer, and to competing at our local shows.

I'm really happy with the collection of horses we have at the yard at the minute - they all look smart and have lovely attitudes, which makes my job so much more enjoyable!

A Great End to 2013!

December 2013

Stitches2013 has been very busy, but a great year for us at the yard. It has been fantastic to see so many of our past horses out competing and doing so well for their new owners. They have been placed in eventing, showing, dressage, working hunter and hunter trials - and it makes our job worthwhile to see the enjoyment their riders are getting.

We always have a good selection of quality all rounders, hunters, and competition horses to suit most needs and budgets - and if we don't, we'll try and find you the right horse.

Thank you to all our clients, and a happy new year!

Working Hunter Success!

November 2013

Congratulations to two of my previous horses at Moy Riding School's Working Hunter at the weekend.

Roberta Capper kicked off the winning streak by jumping a lovely clear round on her connemara Whiskey and her accurately ridden show piece allowed her to win class 2.

Caoimhe McKeown and The Rock put her recent lessons with me into good use and jumped a beautiful clear round in class 3 to win it by 3 points.

Well done to both riders and keep up the good work!

More Success for Olivia and Dougal!

September 2013

Since their success at the area showjumping (see below article), Olivia and Dougal have gone from strength to strength. We have just received an email from her mum saying:-

"Olivia and Dougal have had further success their school team, coming 4th out of 20 teams at NSEA Showjumping at Bryanston on 14th September over 80cm. They also got individual 11th at NSEA one day event at Stonar on 21st September, one of only a few to get double clears, with 2 members of their team sadly being eliminated in the XC. So now they have been picked to go to the NSEA Championships at Addington Equestrian Centre on 26th and 27th October!!!"

Best of luck to the pair at Addington Equestrian Centre at the end of October - we can't wait to see the photos!

Duke's Derby

September 2013

We took 6 young horses to Duke's Livery Stables Derby last week and had a super day.

In the 70cm class Nicola rode Bluebell with Nicky tucked in behind on Ozzie, who was just broken 2 weeks ago. Bluebell jumped a super clear round at her first competition like this and Ozzie just rolled a pole.

In the 85cm Nicky jumped a clear round on both Stitches and Bosco, which put him in the jump off, but unfortunately rolled the style coming off the bank and left them out of the prizes. Nicola also had the style down, which proved to be the bogey fence all day, on Ted, and had a sat nav problem with Splash but he left all the fences up. They were delighted with all the young horses at their first competition, as they took the whole day in their stride.

Super day had by all over a challenging course.

Dougal & Olivia 4th at Area Showjumping

7 September 2013

DougalHuge congratulations go to Olivia and Dougal who were part of the Wilton Pony Club showjumping team to gain 4th at the area showjumping. They were one of only 4 teams out of 25 to finish on a score of zero jumping penalties. We're delighted to see Dougal doing so well - he's a very special pony! (middle pony in photo)

HuntThe Children's Hunt will start from our yard at 12 noon on Friday 28 December. This is for children and chaperones only and there will be a lead rein group. Everyone welcome!

Congratulations to Catherine and George!

18 December 2012

GeorgeHuge congratulations to Catherine McNally & George (DG Lions Fort) who had a very successful 2012 - George was 5th in the Eventing Ireland TRI National Leading Horse Table and Catherine 19th in the Leading Rider Table!

Superb result for the pair & we wish them the best of luck for 2013!

Cracking Weekend XC & Hunting

10 November 2012

What a busy weekend we had at the yard!

Basil - our chief navigator!!

On Saturday Nicola and I took Amber and Joe XC schooling. This was Amber's 1st day XC and she was super - she refused nothing and took water, steps, drops, banks and ditches all in her stride, much to Nicola's delight! Joe also was a star and had a blast jumping the bigger fences at Castle Leslie, totally unfazed.

Jero and Nelson went hunting with The South Tyrone Foxhounds and also had a great day - Nelson went from helping with the hounds at the front of the field, to closing gates at the back - all with a smile on his face!

Sunday @ Castle Leslie

Sunday saw us take another trip up to Castle Leslie, this time with 4 horses. Sarah rode Zebedee and had a great time babysitting the younger horses & showing them how it was done. Ciaran took the reins of Bob for the first time and jumped everything in sight! Nicola was riding Stroller and fell in love with him - she just wishes she was young enough to compete 14.2hh's!!!! I took Tonto for his first XC outting and he behaved impeccably, happy jumping with the group or on his own. We then called into the gate lodge at the hotel for a well earned bowl of chicken wings!!

Stroller

I am very lucky to have a yard of lovely horses at the moment, all with fabulous temperaments.

Start of the Hunting Season

October 2012

Hound ExerciseIts that time of year again, the leaves are falling and the hunting season is about to kick off! All our hunt horses are in, clipped, fit and ready to go.

I took Stitches out with the hounds on Saturday for the first time and he behaved impecably, Nicola rode Nelson so maybe his good manners and experience rubbed off on him!! I have some lovely horses to hunt this year and can't wait to get going!

Apart from the hunters, we've lots of young horses in to be broken so we'll be doing plenty of training shows and hunter trials over Christmas and the New Year ready for Spring 2013!

George & Catherine Win at Tyrella

14th April 2012

George at TyrellaCatherine McNally & DG Lions Fort (aka George!) won the first leg of the Equest Pramox CNC1* U25 Class at Tyrella (2) on Saturday. The pair led the competition from the dressage and produced a super double clear to gain maximum points.

George and Catherine now head to Ballindenisk International this weekend to compete in the CIC*. We wish them the best of luck and will be cheering them on all the way!

Laurelview 2 Phase

14 April 2012

LouUnfortunately no prizes home this weekend but delighted with how the young horses jumped at the 2 phase.

NelsonThey all went clear xc & had no bother with ditches, skinneys or water!

Success at Tyrella

9 April 2012

Although the weather wasn't great at Tyrella on Easter Monday, spirits were high as all three horses from the yard jumped double clear!

Heidi XCHeidi was up first and produced a good dressage score combined with a clear show jumping round to put her 2nd going into the XC. Nicola and Heidi took it easy round the twisty 1st half of the course and on doing so picked up a time fault which dropped them to 3rd over all, but were delighted, as this was only the pair's 3rd event together!

Lou wasn't to disappoint and making her debut, she took it all in her stride and produced a good dressage, combined with a double clear in the SJ and XC, leaving her just outside the placings.

Roger XCRoger was last, but by no means least, and did a lovely test to leave him in 4th place going in to the jumping phases. He jumped an effortless clear show jumping over an up to height course. A mistake made by the organisers unfortunately cost Roger a placing - he was stopped on the XC course for quite a while due to a fault with a fence and no one had a stop watch on him - resulting in him gaining extensive time penalties and there for knocking him out of the placings.

After a long day, all the horses got their toes wet on the beach, we got the lorry packed up and headed for home!

Nicky was delighted with all 3 horses and hopes to repeat the success this weekend at Laurelview with the young horses - here's hoping the sun shines!

Topper (aka Bilbo Baggins) On a Winning Streak!

Hunter TrialsTopper was in great form over the weekend - not only did he fly around the Open Class at the Meath Foxhounds Hunter Trials, but he also secured himself 2 Northern Ireland Fesival Working Hunter tickets!

Topper, now known to his new family as Oscar, was placed in both the 80cm and 90cm working hunter classes at Mill Yard on Saturday. He is the untimate all rounder and has hunted this season with the Fermanagh Harriers, Meath Foxhounds and South Tyrone Foxhounds. Sarah and Oscar now hope to go to Cavan, and then onto Balmoral in May.

We wish the pair great success!

Dromiskin 2

31 March 2012

Heidi and Roger travelled to Dromiskin, Dundalk on Saturday for their first Eventing Ireland Event. Roger put in a good test to leave him lying about halfway in the class, but after good jumping phases, especially the XC which caused a lot of problems, he finished 6th overall. All the hunting over the winter paid off as he sailed around the XC inside the optimum time.

Heidi produced a good dressage test and stood her in 8th going into the show jumping, and with a clear round moved her on up the leaderboard, but unfortunately neither her nor Heidi wanted to get their feet wet and due to Nicola's nerves, had 3 steps back & therefore an elimination in the XC - this was a great shame as she got into the water and stormed round the rest of the XC (including 2 more water complexes!) with out a bother!

Both riders were delighted with the horses and will be at Tyrella on Easter Monday for another go!!

Tri Eventing at Tyrella

17 March 2102

The sun shone on Tyrella on Saturday as Heidi and Roger had their first outing of the season - and what a successful one it was!

Nicky & RogerRoger tackled the 1m class and jumped a lovely clear SJ, followed up by a faultless XC that was 2 seconds off the optimum time, resulting in him winning the class!!

Nicola & HeidiHeidi wasn't to be out done and produced a super double clear in the 90cm class and was nearly bang on the optimum time, leaving her in top spot too!

It was a great start to the season - lets hope it continues! Big thank you to all who came to Tyrella for their support and help on the day.

DG Lions Fort wins 1.20m at The Meadows

25 February 2012

Congratulations to Catherine McNally and DG Lions Fort who jumped double clear in 1.10m and the only double clear in 1.20m.

The pair are getting warmed up for the upcoming eventing season & if they keep jumping like this there'll be no stopping them!!

South Tyrone Hunt at Carland

28 January 2012

Roger clearing a hedge at CarlandRoger and Nelson were partnered by Nicky & Jero at the South Tyrone Foxhound meet at Carland. This was a new meet, and although the ground was wet, provided great sport. The two horses pulled out all the stops clearing wire, gates, drains and hedges very well despite jumping out of heavy ground all day.

Topper jumping wire at CarlandTopper had spent the week at the yard on his holidays, and on her return to the country Sarah took up the chance of a day with the 'South Tyrone's' - Topper, like the other 2 horses, jumped a blinder and carried Sarah over her first ever 6 bar gate! The pair were only 1 of 3 combinations that tackled a hedge with a big drain behind it & 'survived', after combination 4 fell the rest of the field decided to find an alternative!!

It was a great day, everyone came back with smiles on their faces and both horses returned tired but no worse for wear.

Topper Leaves The Yard

27 October 2011

Topper has gone to a wonderful new home and has already looked after his new owner at their first hunt! We wish them every sucess together - he will be greatly missed at the yard & the next horse in his stable will have big shoes to fill!

Show Jumping Training

24 & 30 October 2011

On 24 October 2011 Dougal had his first outting away from the yard and despite it being Nicola's first time riding him, they put in a double clear in the 60cm class at Portmore Equestrian Centre, but unfortunately tipped a pole in the 70 due to Dougal getting a bit tired. He behaved impeccably, especially in such a spooky arena.

On Sunday 30 October Hannah Whittle rode Mac round the 55cm to jump a lovely clear, and Amy Whittle rode Dougal to jump clear in the 55cm and a cracking double clear in the 65cm.

This Tuesday (1 November 2011) sees Nicola & Dougal returning to Portmore along with Nicky & Joe or Roger and Andrew Murphy & Just Jack.

Dougal and Amy warming up

Archie & Bosco take British Eventing by Storm!

At the end of August Archie Lowe and Mr Bosco made their BE debut at BE80, and were placed 3rd. Since then they have gone from strength to strength and having won their last BE80, last weekend they made the move to BE90 in fine style....by winning it! This pair keep getting better and better! Bosco was bred by Desi & Mary Corr and so has a special place with everyone at Moy Riding School.

Massive congratulation to the pair & we look forward to reporting more of their winnings next season!

Archie & Bosco BE90

Eventing Ireland - Loughanmore September 2011

DG Lions Fort & Catherine McNally win CNC* U25

Catherine and George have gone from strength to strength this season, and added to their silverware this weekend was a win in the CNC* U25 at Loughanmore.

The pair did a superb dressage test to put them well in to the lead going into the SJ, where they jumped a clear round. Loughanmore is a notoriously difficult and up to height XC course, but it didn't cause George or Catherine any bother and the they came home clear and inside the time.

This is a fantastic result for the pair who were 3rd last week in the CNC* U25 at Tullymurray last week.

Congratulations Catherine!!

British Eventing - Hatherleigh August 2011

Bosco & Archie Storm Round Their First BE80!!

Archie Lowe and Mr Bosco put in a fabulous performance at their first British Eventing event this weekend.

The pair were lying joint second after a super dressage test, and after lowering a pole in the showjumping and producing a superb clear round XC finished 4th out of 31 starters!!

This is a fabulous start to their British Eventing career! Big well done to Archie and Bosco!

Hopefully we'll have a few photos soon!

Royal Dublin Horse Show 2011

Heidi & Nicola Perform Well at Their 1st Dublin

Heidi (Freeway) and Nicola competed last week in their 1st Dublin.

Wednesday morning saw them compete in the small riding horse class, which is a mixed age class. They were pulled in 8th and after the judges had ridden Heidi and seen her stripped, they moved up to takes 4th place - the highest placed 4 year old.

Friday afternoon, a much more 'buzzy' atmosphere around the ring, and they were in the small coloured horse class. Again this was an open class and had horses up to the age of 13 competing - after a good gallop and an individual show piece Heidi was given a 5th place rosette, and was again the highest placed 4 year old.

A big thanks to everyone who helped in the background - without them the pair may not have got to the ring!!

Royal Dublin Horse Show 2011

Catherine and George in the Top 4 for the 2nd Year in a Row!!

Catherine McNally and George (DG Lions Fort) stood 2nd in a very strong class of PC members from throughout Ireland in the open combined training class.

George benefited from being last to go in the dressage and did a foot perfect test leaving them just 5 points off the leader overnight in joint 2nd. Going into the jumping phase on Sunday nerves were high as the marks were so close at the top. The competitor who was also in joint second dropped a pole, and with only 1 clear round from the other 9 competitors, Catherine needed to hold her nerve. Catherine and George jumped a foot perfect clear round and only added 1 time penalty to her score! Despite the leader lowering a pole, it wasn't enough, leaving Catherine in 2nd by 2 points!

The same combination were 4th in the intermediate class last year and did a superb job standing 2nd in such a strong open class!

Well done George and Catherine - what a year you have had!!

Catherine McNally & DG Lions Fort

FEHL - Ravensdale

29 June 2011

Heidi and Topper did their first 4yr old future event horse qualifier at Ravensdale on Wednesday. Heidi did a good test and gained above the minimum qualifying score, Topper stood on a white board going in and didn't do as good a test as he normally would. However he more than made up for it as he jumped a foot perfect clear round inside the time! Heidi had one pole down (rider error!!) but jumped very well, also within the time, to come home in the top 10!!

Heidi will be heading to the next qualifier at Tattersals on Wednesday 6 July.

Topper @ FEHL
Heidi @ FEHL

2 Phase at Ravendsale

26 June 2011

Heidi and Topper jumped a superb double clear each in the 85cm 2 phase at Ravensdale on Sunday. Both jumped faultless rounds in both the SJ and XC which is a great warm up for the 4 year old future event horse qualifier coming up at Ravensdale on Wednesday!

Showjumping at The Meadows

25 June 2011

Bart jumped two super rounds at The Meadows, Lurgan on Saturday in the 70 & 80cm classes, at his first time out under saddle!

Bart - 80cm

Armagh Show

11 June 2011

'Team Corr' had a great day at Armagh Show!

Topper jumped a superb clear round in the working hunter - in a class of over 50 starters and only a handful of clear rounds! The coloured class was well worth the wait as Nicola and Heidi got the red rosette - a super result for their showing debut!

We're heading to The Highland Show next week to cheer on Team Martin / Walsh as they show their yearling and 2 year old. Good luck all!

Heidi

Balmoral Show 2011

11 - 13th May 2011

Joe competed in the 4yr old Middle weight class at Balmoral on Wednesday & didn't put a foot wrong - at only his 2nd outting he behaved impeccably and stood 5th in a strong class.

Topper jumped a super clear round in the 4yr old working hunter on Friday and finished 2nd in a class of 15. The ride judge said he gave a really comfortable and mannerly ride and loved his attitude.

Joe and Topper along with the other horses in the yard will be heading to Ballymena / Armagh / Lurgan shows over the summer - keep an eye out for details.

Eventing Ireland - Rademon

30 April 2011

Big congratulations to Catherine McNally & DG Lions Fort (aka Gorgeous George!) who not only were 4th last week in the U25 CNC* class at Tyrella, but were 2nd today at Rademon over a very stiff course!

Tyrella ODE

25 April 2011

Another day of competition and another day of prizes!

Amy was first up on Mac, who was competing at his first one day event, and second ever competition and not only put in a great performance but won the class!! Massive congratulations and thanks to Amy who did a fabulous job!

The pressure was then on Nicky to perform, but he didn't disappoint and rode Storm into 5th place in the 90cm class. Nicola rode Duke in the open class, and if she hadn't forgotten where she was going on the XC, would have been in the prizes too!!

All horses went very well and there are a lot of tired legs tonight - human as well as equine!!!

2 Phase at Laurelview, Templepatrick

16 April 2011

Another glorious weekend and another successful day of competing.

Amy Whittle took Mac out for his first time in the 70 cm class and although show jumped a little green, had a cracking clear round XC.

Nicky jumped a fantastic double clear on Storm and went on to win the over 21 year old 85cm class out of 56 competitors!! He then went on to jump 2 cracking clear XC rounds on Roger and Topper, the latter of which was 7th in the same strong class.

Nicola finished off the day with a clear XC round in the open class on Duke (who managed to 'catch her' when she lost her stirrup jumping into the water!) and finished up 10th in another strong class of 36.

Another big thank you to Desi for driving the lorry, Stuart Whittle for all his help and of course, Hannah Whittle for being chief dog-walker!!!

Photos of all to follow!

Ravensdale Working Hunter (qualifier for NI Festival)

9 April 2011

The sun shone on Ravensdale on Saturday and Team Corr were out in force!

Nicky rode Topper to win the 4yr old class and pick up the first qualifying card of the day. He followed that up with another win, this time on Roger, who was making his debut and jumped a foot perfect clear in the 70cm class. (Topper also jumped clear in this class but Nicky couldn't ride two horses into the ring!) Storm didn't disappoint and jumped a lovely clear round to win the cob class.

Nicola then took over the reins and steered Alfie to jump a super clear round and win the 80cm class. A quick swap over and warm up on Duke, who went in and jumped another lovely clear to take 3rd in the 90cm class.

A very successful day had by all - picking up 3 qualifying tickets for the Northern Ireland Festival at Cavan.

Big thanks to Desi who drove the lorry and Mary who turned all the horses out to perfection.

Antler Challenge 2011

19 March 2011

Nicky, along with 2 other members of th South Tyrone Foxhounds, travelled to Kilcock on Satuday to take part in the Antler Challenge - a hunt race over 3 miles of natural fences (most with very big drains behind them!! Unfortunately Nicky and Herbie fell at the 9th but his headcam footage is well worth watching!!

Horse & Hound

24 February 2011

See the article 'The toughest hunt in Ireland' in this weeks horse and hound - fantastically written by Martha Terry who hunted for the day from Dormans pub, Ardboe.

3 of our horses were out that day (Ronnie, Fred and Duke), and despite half the field falling, they all remained on their feet and looked after their riders over the biggest of hedges and trickiest of wire!

The article gives a great insight into a typical day with the South Tyrone Foxhounds & what sort of horses are needed to cross their country! All our horses hunt with the South Tyrones helping them think quickly and for themselves, whilst instilling manners in them.

Horse & Hound Come to South Tyrone Foxhounds

29 January 2011

South Tyrone Foxhounds hosted Marta Terry from Horse and Hound last Saturday at Dorman's pub, Ardboe. 3 horses from the yard were out hunting and all jumped some big hedges, plenty of wire and lots off the road! Fred was whipping the hounds with Nicky, while Duke was down the field with the hunt treasurer Patrick McAvoy. Some of the photos are pasted below & the on the horses profiles - the rest can be seen on nickycorr.com facebook site - videos to follow!!

Ballyvannon Pre Novice

14 August 2010

Duke did his first one day event at the new eventing ireland location Ballyvannon, Glenavy. There weren't many clears in the showjumping but Duke carried a very nervous Nicola round clear.

The cross country course was well up to height with plenty of questions throughout, and plenty of experienced horse and rider combinations had faults. Despite being stopped after fence 2 ,due to a faller on the course, Duke flew round and jumped a super clear round, adding only a few time penalties, as he's not up to full event fitness. The combination finished just above half way in the class. Higher quality photo to follow.

One of Nickys pupils, Carly Douglas, had a fantastic day at Limavady Show - she won the novice & open 133cm WH and then went on to win the WH championship on her pony Peaceful Paradise. She failed to pass on her secrets to her dad, Paul, who parted company from his horse 'Roxy' in the horse WH! Duke jumped a lovely clear round in the WH.

RUAS - Balmoral Show

12 - 14th May 2010

Balmoral Show is over for another year and proved to be very busy!!

On Wednesday Alfie was 4th in his heavyweight class - he was a saint and rode like a much older horse! Nicky was recruited to ride a 7yr old middleweight who stood 2nd and then went on to be Reserve Supreme Champion Hunter! In between the ridden hunter classes Nicky helped out the Martin / Walsh team in the youngstock ring picking up a 4th and 5th in 2 very large classes!

On Friday Alfie jumped a clinking round in his 4yr old class (video to follow). Abo jumped a beautiful clear round in the 5 & 6yr old class and was 3rd in a big class of about 30 starters!

Also competing on Friday was Katie Burns and George who jumped a superb clear round, did a foot perfect show piece and was 2nd in a very strong class!

Congratulations to everyone! Photos to follow.
